Helping individuals, organisations and communities improve resilience, wellbeing, performance and recovery through science-backed nervous system regulation.
Through presentations, workshops, programs and research initiatives, Cameron Oates is helping people better understand the connection between the brain, heart and nervous system : and how simple, practical strategies can create meaningful and lasting change.
After experiencing significant personal challenges, including chronic pain, depression and the loss of his brother to suicide, Cameron became deeply committed to understanding why some people struggle while others thrive.
What began as a personal search for answers evolved into a lifelong passion for neuroscience, human behaviour, resilience and nervous system regulation.
Today, Cameron’s work is centred around a simple belief:
Our sleep improves.
Our relationships improve.
Our focus improves.
Our resilience improves.
Our health improves.
Our lives improve.
Through education, technology and practical tools, Cameron is on a mission to make nervous system regulation one of the most accessible and valuable life skills available to every Australian.
Cameron Oates is the Founder and Director of Neurotherapy Australia, a national organisation dedicated to helping individuals optimise brain function, regulate the nervous system and improve overall wellbeing.
Combining neuroscience, neurofeedback, Heart Rate Variability (HRV) training, nervous system education, mindfulness, personal development and behaviour change strategies, Cameron has worked with individuals from all walks of life, including:
Turning Science Into Practical Change

Known for his engaging and relatable presentation style, Cameron has a unique ability to translate complex neuroscience into simple, practical tools that people can immediately apply in their everyday lives.

Over the years, I’ve explored a wide range of approaches to wellbeing, resilience, performance and personal growth.
What became clear was that lasting change rarely begins with information alone.
It begins with state.
When our nervous system is overwhelmed, stressed or dysregulated, it becomes harder to think clearly, make good decisions, regulate emotions and perform at our best.
This understanding led to the development of The 4 to Restore Method, a simple yet powerful four-step process designed to help bring the body, heart, mind and nervous system back into alignment.
Today, The 4 to Restore Method forms the foundation of my presentations, workshops, programs and training experiences.
Whether I’m working with corporate teams, educators, defence personnel, first responders, retreat guests or individuals, the principles remain the same.
Because regardless of our role, background or life circumstances, we all share one thing in common:
A Simple Practice
The first step is to bring your attention to the area of your heart and begin breathing slowly and rhythmically.
A simple starting point is to breathe in for approximately five seconds and breathe out for approximately five seconds.
As the breath becomes slower, smoother and more balanced, the body begins to receive a signal of safety. This helps shift the nervous system away from stress-driven patterns and towards a more regulated internal state.
The goal is not to breathe perfectly. The goal is to create a steady rhythm that helps your body begin to settle.
Once your breathing has started to settle, the next step is to intentionally activate a renewing emotional state.
This may be gratitude, appreciation, love, compassion, calm, strength or joy.
Rather than simply thinking about the emotion, the aim is to feel it in the body. You may bring to mind a person, place, memory, moment or future vision that naturally helps you feel a genuine sense of appreciation or connection.
This step matters because the nervous system responds not only to what we think, but to what we feel. When the breath and emotion begin working together, the body can move into a more coherent and balanced state.
The third step is to introduce a clear "I Am" statement. This is not about repeating empty positive words. It is about choosing a state, identity or way of being that you want to align with.
Examples may include:
The key is to choose a statement that feels meaningful to you. When this statement is paired with regulated breathing and an elevated emotion, it becomes more than a thought. It becomes a signal to the body.
You are not just saying the words. You are beginning to practise the state.
The fourth step is Radiate. After regulating your breath, activating an elevated emotion and affirming your chosen state, the final step is to allow that feeling to expand through your body and outward from the heart.
This is where the process becomes embodied. You are no longer just thinking about calm, strength, gratitude or alignment. You are practising what it feels like to become that state.
You may imagine the feeling radiating from the area of your heart, moving through your chest, your body, your posture, your facial expression and the space around you. This step helps connect the internal state with how you show up externally.
Calm becomes something you carry. Strength becomes something you embody. Gratitude becomes something you express. Alignment becomes something you radiate.
The 4 to Restore Method is not about perfection.
It is not about forcing positive thinking.
And it is not another complicated wellbeing strategy.
It is a practical process designed to help people return to a more regulated, coherent and resourceful state, regardless of what is happening around them.
When Practised Consistently, It Can Help Support
Much of my work involves helping people understand what is happening inside their nervous system.
Tools such as Heart Rate Variability (HRV), neurofeedback and brain mapping can provide valuable insights and feedback throughout that process.
They are simply ways of measuring and reinforcing change.
However, these tools are not the destination.
The real work happens through practice.
And The 4 to Restore Method provides a practical framework for doing exactly that.
